Hello again. Sadly, we in the Northeast have suffered another tragedy. I’m sure by now everyone all over the globe has heard of the 20 year old gunman who went to an Elementary School in a small, quiet community who shot and killed 20 children and 8 adults. One does not have to have children to feel the horror as well as the heartbreak. The Bible tells us “to weep with those that weep”. (Romans 12:15) Tears were not spared regarding this horrible occurrence. I heard and saw many people turning to tears as the news in Connecticut unfolded.
The one word that was used over and over by commentators was the word evil. They said evil had visited that community. Scripture says to us ” Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil”. (Proverbs 3:7) and to “hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil.” (1Thessalonians 5:21-22) This 20 year old chose to act evil-from the moment he woke up and killed his mother, went to the school and killed innocent lives, and then chose to take his own life. No one will ever know what brought out this evil act of violence from this kid. The Bible says “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?: (Jeremiah 17:9) Do not think for one moment that God is not upset by what happened! This is what God’s word says ” Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “ VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord.” (Romans 12:19). You may not believe it but, God is our advocate-no matter what and He will avenge on our behalf.
As we move forward, please know that God is here for those want Him-even if it’s to ask why. “For no one is cast off by the Lord forever. Though He brings grief, He will show compassion, so great is His unfailing love. For He does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone. (Lamentations 3:32-33) “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” (Lamentations 3:25-26)
Some of the promises we have from God to remember are:
“You will keep Him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” (Isaiah 26:3)
For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. ( 1Thessalonians 5:9-10)
“Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” (Hebrews :27-28)
