“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)

Hello! How are you? How are things?  I, myself have gone through a recent trial these last two weeks and I am so grateful that I had and felt  the grace of God.  Frankly, I do not know how people go through the tough times without having the assurance of their relationship in Jesus. I would assume by now everyone has heard of the news of the death of Robin Williams.  He was a comedic genius with improv and timing. The news of his death was sad. If he didn’t know Jesus when he died, then his death is even more tragic because now he will be eternally separated from God.

This may be a morbid topic, but we will all die eventually. A family member  of mine almost died last week, but it was not his time and God spared him. The Bible says “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27) When one knows Jesus, they will die a physical death (absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”) but, they will have eternal life because the spirit will live 0n-which means the person does not truly die. You see, we are made up of spirit, soul and body. The body is our “physical shell”; our mind, will and emotions are our soul; and then our spirit. In the beginning God breathed His Spirit into His creation-which was Adam; thus giving him life. We all come from Adam and Eve. They are our “original parents” who are brought sin into the world-which is why there is a physical death.  (In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19)  People walk around thinking that they should just take care of their bodies only and that will prolong their life. Obviously, we should do everything we can to maintain our health and live a healthy lifestyle; and I have heard so many people say “my body is a temple like the Bible says it is”. But, they are mis-quoting the scripture and say that as a way to idolize their body.  The Bible says that our body is the temple of the HOLY SPIRIT. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

The real issue about life/death (or, eternal life/eternal death) is whether one believes in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and will therefore never die.  Do you believe this to be true? Can you accept that there is eternal life, but only through Jesus “Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) Many people think their philosophy will save them Or, their religion will save them; or, their morality will save them-you know the “golden rule”…”do unto others as you would want done to you…” But, the fact is this…none of this will save you and guarantee you a spot in heaven. One’s morality will not get you salvation. However, morality is a by-product of  one’s salvation.  You may not accept this information, but, do you believe it is true? Understand that God see everything and “we have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) God is a Holy God and He will not have anything sinful in His presence. That is why only Jesus offers us forgiveness of our sins and makes us “white as snow” as He mediates on our behalf. The only way to achieve this is to believe this. I’m not talking about visualization, or perception or anything that is self-serving. Belief is an act of faith because there really is nothing for us to do except believe what God says is true.

This trials I went through made me think (again) that time is short and life as we know it is precious. My concern with my family member is that they refuse to submit themselves to Jesus.  Salvation is a gift; so therefore, it is something we cannot bargain with or obtain on our own. Jesus said “I am the Way, the truth and light. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Do you believe this? The decision is an easy one and yours to make. We are not promised tomorrow which is why “Today is the day of salvation.”  For he says, In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you. I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2) Salvations starts with a choice to believe and then the action to accept-which awakes your spiritual nature (remember we are spirit, soul and body).

As you walk Every Day With Grace,  I ask that you choose life-eternal life and believe. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever would believe on Him would not perish, but have ever-lasting life.” (John 3:16)

I Surrender All | Judson W. Van DeVenter

 All to Jesus I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

Refrain:
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power;
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred flame.
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His Name!

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.” (Philippians 3:14-15N

imagesHello! How is everyone? How is life going with you?  There are so many things going on in the world and in our personal lives that the only thing to say is that we need to press on  as move forward in our lives.  I probably seem somewhat distracted, but, I too, have been going through things and my mind, time and attention seem to be all over the place. “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. (Psalm 42:11)

As one goes through difficult times, one needs to encourage themselves in the LORD and to press on while holding on to God’s promises.I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD (Psalms 40:1-3) “When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.” (Psalms 34:17)  Friends and family are good to have, but God is truly the only one who can change our situations and help us up when we are down and feel like there is no where else to go. “But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.” (Psalm 3:3) ” I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

My blog will be very short this week.  i want to encourage you in some scriptures so I can encourage myself. So, here are some of the promises that are ours to keep and to hold on to: “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.”

 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. J0HN 16:33)  “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.” (1 Peter 4;12-13)

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

 As you walk Every Day With Grace,  my heart’s cry for you is embrace God’s truth in His word as you press on in your daily lives.  I leave you with this old time Hymn to encourage you so you can press on:

Press On

Press on, my brother, sister,
And face the deadly foe;
Through Jesus Christ we’ll conquer,
While trav’ling here below. Refrain:
Press on, press on,
Says Christ, our loving Friend;
Press on, press on,
“I’m with thee to the end.” Press on, and let thy failings
A blessing to thee prove;
No wave of care or sorrow
Thy trusting soul shall move. Press on, though raging tempests
And fiery billows roll;
While crossing life’s rough rapids,
He’ll safely guide thy soul.

Press on, ’mid strong temptation,
Tell Satan he must flee;
In Jesus’ name resist him,
And vict’ry thine shall be.

Press on, forever trusting,
In faith believing, too;
In spite of doubt or feeling,
God’s word will take you through.

Press on to what’s before us,
Forgetting all the past;
The light of heav’n so glorious
Eternally shall last.

“The man of many friends [a friend of all the world] will prove himself a bad friend, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24-Amplified)

hugsHello! How are you? How has your week been?  Are you beginning to enjoy the warmer weather with friends and/or family? Lately I have been thinking of friends/friendships and having a “support system” in life when life throws a curve ball and there is nothing you can do…except just “go threw” the circumstances.”Two are better than one, because they have a good return
 for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls down and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-11)

Life definitely has its ups and downs…and it is usually during those times that we find out who are  friends really are. Some people are fortunate and have what  I would call “reliable back-up”. “Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy.” (Proverbs 14:10) But, I also know that there are many people who don’t have any form of “back up.”  So the only one they can truly rely on is Jesus. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. (John 15:15) Jesus has made Himself continually and eternally available to us.“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” (1 John 4:7)

Once we accept Him as LORD and Savior, He not only connects with us, He abides within us and promises to never leave us nor forsake us. As our friend, He can forgive our sins when we ask to be forgiven. “When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” (Luke 5:20)  You are my friends if you do what I command.” (John 15:14)  As many of us already know, friendship comes with responsibility and sacrifice on both parts. “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”  (John 15:13) “For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3;16)

I want you to know we are never alone with God and His Son, Jesus. That is the promise of His relationship with usSince we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1) “So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.” (2 Peter 3:14) God is faithful to us because He loves us. Jesus is always a friend to us and because of that we will never again walk alone or be alone. His love transcends boundaries, cultures, and generations. His love and friendship is forever and He will not not rescind it.  We may not want God as our friend; but, we always have a friend in Jesus.

As you walk Every Day With Grace, know that “ A friend loves at all times…” (Proverbs 17:17) and that when in doubt, we always have a friend in Jesus.

What a Friend We Have in Jesus

Text: Joseph M. Scriven, 1820-1886
Music: Charles C. Converse, 1832-1918
Tune: CONVERSE, Meter: 87.87 D

1.	What a friend we have in Jesus,
	all our sins and griefs to bear!
	What a privilege to carry
	everything to God in prayer!
	O what peace we often forfeit,
	O what needless pain we bear,
	all because we do not carry
	everything to God in prayer.

2.	Have we trials and temptations?
	Is there trouble anywhere?
	We should never be discouraged;
	take it to the Lord in prayer.
	Can we find a friend so faithful
	who will all our sorrows share?
	Jesus knows our every weakness;
	take it to the Lord in prayer.

3.	Are we weak and heavy laden,
	cumbered with a load of care?
	Precious Savior, still our refuge;
	take it to the Lord in prayer.
	Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
	Take it to the Lord in prayer!
	In his arms he'll take and shield thee;
	thou wilt find a solace there.

Hello. How are you? I hope your week is going well.  It seems apparent that God has me dwelling on and writing from Psalm 23.  Considering what I am going through, I find it odd that I kept coming back to the above scripture because the last thing I think I should be doing is lying down-green pastures or not. As I was researching “peaceful” n the Bible, I noticed a “recurring theme” God has regarding pastures and peace. They seem to go a little hand in hand.”O they went to the entrance of Gedor, as far as the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks. And they found rich, good pasture, and the land was broad, quiet, and peaceful; for some Hamites formerly lived there.” (1Chronicles 4:39-40) “My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation In secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places…” (Isaiah 32:18)

As I write to you God shows me about myself and I gain my own revelation towards what I am going through.  A pasture is where sheep rest. God calls His children sheep as well. “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10:27) I think it would be safe to say that it is when we “lie down” and rest, we can then rest in God-should we choose. I guess that is the place where we have to let go of ourselves and grab onto God. “Or let him take hold of My strength, That He may make peace with Me; And He shall make peace with Me.” (Isaiah 27:5)  I remember when Hurricane Sandy hit Long Island last October-First, let me say that I was no where near effected as many other people were. I was without power for 1 week; even my job was shut down for 1 week. At night it was a little chilly in my house, but, I’ll tell you-I slept the best during that time. Why do y9u think that is? Because I had no control of anything and had to rely soley on God for everything. For those who went through it, you can remember the food stores running out of bread’ gas stations ran out of gas and some stations  who had gas were gouging the people who need to buy gas for their cars and generators. During all of this, I was able shower and share meals and spend most of the days with my friend at her daughter’s house because she had power. I felt so peaceful during that crisis. “The Lord preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me  Return to your rest, O my soul, For the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. (Psalm 116:6-7)

Another theme I am also seeing is this: when one is walking and trusting in God, they have peace. But, if one is not walking and trusting Him for everything, then,there is no peace so, God in His mercy and love will create opportunities for His sheep to “lie down” so we can rest in Him and His strength and not figure out and manipulate a way out of our present situation without Him. God loves and will always provide a way of escape during our trials. It is the trials that our faith gets tested. “So, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness” (Hebrews 3:7-8)  God allows us to grow and learn during and from our trials. I would say it is definitely harder to learn during a trial, but, when we look back and reflect at that time in our life, then we can see what God was trying to accomplish in our lives. Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt,because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” (James 1:2-8)  God is so faithful to us even when we are not faithful to Him. He always gives us an opportunity to come back to Him so we can participate in His rest throughout our spirit, soul, and body.  You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal” (Isaiah 26:3-4)

As we Walk Every Day With Grace, let us learn to “lie down” with God and possess the peace that can only come from His presence.  The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures.

In His Love,

Melody

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

Hello. How is everyone? It has been a rough couple of weeks and I believe, it’s going to continue that way for a little longer. I was going talk about one thing, however, I jut received a phone call that slightly changed what I wanted to say.

First, let me encourage all of you to have faith in God. That is where all hope lies-through Jesus Christ. He is God the Father, God, the Son and God the Holy Spirit. During this time in life, God is not what one would call “tangible”. We can’t see Him or touch Him so we need to have faith to believe He is alive and that He is here for us. What I mean by that is-by faith we have entered into a relationship with God. To have faith literally means (according to Webster’s Dictionary): ” firm belief in something for which there is no proof : complete trust” and ” belief and trust in and loyalty to God.” To put such trust in to God makes Him happy (pleased). But, there are many people who don’t take that step of faith.  Ever hear of “doubting Thomas?  “Jesus said to him, “Thomas,because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29) Now is the time to develop your relationship with God. Now is the time to pour your heart, your soul and your tears. You reward will be Jesus’ physical return to this earth and our living with Him face to face for all of eternity.

Secondly, I want to re-inforce  to you that all the words said in the Bible are true. The Bible is God’s instruction manual on how we should live. We must cling to His truth which is in His Word, the Bible. There is certainly nothing new under the sun that God hasn’t already spoken about. We are not alone even though we cannot tangibly see God.  He knows we are frail without Him. That’s why He said: “If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever;” ( John 14:15-16) “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.” (John 15: 24-27) It is when we are going through the trials we feel as if we are the furthest from God and His love. However, that is when He is walking with us and sometimes carrying us to the other side. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4) We need to choose NOT to fear the trial we are currently facing. Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10) Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My load is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30) He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power.” (Isaiah 40:29)  We need to strive to keep our hearts and minds on heave and heavenly things.”Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.” (Colossians 3:2-4 ). I am not saying that these are easy choices. In fact they are not. It is hard work, but, we have to choose to change our thinking so we can embrace the faith that was already given to those who believe in Jesus.

When trials or tragedy or just life happens, we need to encourage ourselves and each other in God’s Word which gives us the faith to continue on in life because of His words of truth and promises.  Here are some scriptures to dwell on:

Unless the Lord had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.When I said, “My foot is slipping, your unfailing love, Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me your consolation brought me joy.”  (Psalm 94:17-19

“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.: (Psalm 34:17-19)

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)

“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17)

As you Walk Every Day With Grace, pray on these scriptures and ask God to increase your faith and in doing so, we please Him.

In His Love,

Melody

Hello! How is everyone? I hope you have been enjoying your summer with family and friends and making the most out of it. As I mentioned last week, I am in the midst of a trial and remembering when I have been in a situation like this one before.  I think God allows us to “re-visit” some areas of difficulty so we can finally “get it” and learn the lesson that can only be taught by God and God alone.

It has been said “you will know who your friends are when trials come.” The point is this-see who is around when you are going through tough times. People (friends and sometimes family) tend to scatter because they have their own stuff going on. Believe it or not-sometimes they will even blame you for your current troubles-just like Job’s friends. Job was hand picked by God to go through trials just to prove to satan that he was a righteous man.  However, it was during the trials that Job got to see what was still in his heart and it was God’s actual mercy to reveal it to Job so he could repent (turn from) the sin in his heart. Even his wife wasn’t supportive and blamed him. “Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die! But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversityIn all this Job did not sin with his lips.” (Job 2:9-10) Can you imagine? Talk about misery wanting some company! Have you ever met people like this? I know I have. I had to end relationships/friendships like this. So what does one do in this situation? You call upon the Lord, Jesus. “ I called on the Lord in distress; The Lord answered me and set me in a broad place. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? “ (Psalm 118:5-6)

The only one we can ever truly run to for safety, security, and direction is God “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Joshua 1:5)  Where does one go when one is alone, feels alone, and may want to be alone, because of  lack of trust?  One must go to God. You can run to Him, cry out to Him, bow your head before Him, and pray to Him; but, YOU must go to Him. He is already waiting for you. Everything we want or need is in God.  The peace and refuge we seek is in God.“God is our refuge and strength,  A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling.” (Psalm 46:1-3) The picture above is from a fortress I went to in Israel. Talk about feeling safe. It’s high enough to see who is coming from miles away. These rocks were thick-sturdy-full of protection.  That’s how it is with Jesus. He’s our rock and our deliverer. Nothing and no one can penetrate my God. That why I can love Him and go to Him and know without a shadow of doubt that I am secure in Him. Right now, I may be in the midst of a trial, but God is my strength, my fortress and my deliverer in whom I take refuge.  If I can’t believe that God is true, then what hope do I have? What hope does anybody have? “What if  some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: “So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge. (Romans 3:3-4

I hope to encourage you to know you are not alone. I understand the feeling of uncertainty-believe me.  Just because one is a believer in Jesus Christ (God), that does not mean we are exempt from the trials and tribulations of this world. Not everything is happy, peppy and bursting with love!.  It is through the trials we are being conformed to Jesus’ image. It is meant to purify our souls.“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” ( 1 Peter 1 6-7As you go through this crazy place called life, please know you are not alone. Remember to “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. (Psalm 55:22)

Take comfort in knowing you have a fortress and deliverer to go to in times of trouble. Or, if you just need a peaceful refuge, know it is only a heart’s cry away. Take hold of the refuge that was freely given to you as you Walk Every Day with Grace.

In His love,

Melody
