“Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 4:7)

Hello. How are you? How are you doing? I hope all is well as you are taking care of all things in your lives. It is (7) weeks to Christmas and (3) weeks or so to Thanksgiving. Time seems to be moving more quickly since we are approaching the end of the year. It seems like the hustling and bustling of everything starts getting louder and louder and so distracting that one cannot listen to their own thoughts-let alone the voice of God when He is speaking to you.

Why is it is that we say we want to hear from God, but we don’t listen? Why do we make it so complicated to listen to God when He calls out to us? We really don’t have to go far. It’s not like we have to climb a mountain, sit in cloth and enter into a deep meditation in order to get close to God. God is all around us and makes Himself very attainable for us for us to communicate with Him if we choose. Truly, the problem is that we do not make time to listen to Him. Why? Because we are mostly busy about doing things for self-some good, some bad at times (none of us are perfect). We become more self-centered than God centered. We get caught up in our family, friends, jobs, school, grocery shopping, doctor appointments, TV, etc… We try to be everything to everyone and it just creates more clamor inside our head! That’s why we don’t hear God when He call us by our name .(He obviously knows our name). We are too busy doing “stuff” and any form of interruption of our plans makes us angry. So, what do we do? We tune Him out like any other distraction-sometimes completely.

Whether we can admit this or not, we want God on our terms because that’s how we live our lives-everything is on our terms not somebody else’s. Believe it or not, God is a gentleman. He does not force Himself or His will into our lives. We have free will and we will live with the rewards…and the consequences because WE make the decisions and; therefore, cannot blame anyone else for our choices. God is a God a love. But, He is also Just rather than fair. When He sees how crazy and stressed out we can be He may call out to us. Sometimes, He may call us Friend, Lovely, or, His Bride. Unfortunately, as in any relationship, we have the choice to accept or reject love-even God’s love. That’s we He says “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart.” God’s mercies are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:23) Every new day can bring change and possibilities-if we do not harden our hearts and keep God out of it.

God is a Holy God and He is our Creator (Elohim). We were made in His image-not the other way around. Can you imagine how it must heart the heart of God when we choose not to have any communication with Him? Can you imagine children (who are the image of their parents) refuse to have any form of fellowship or relationship with them? I can’t imagine the pain or the heart break! Sadly, I am also guilty of behaving like this with God. There’s been many a day (to my shame) when I have chosen not to listen to God because of my mood or my bad choices. The sad part is there were times I chose to live with the guilt of my behavior until I go to God and ask for forgiveness and to start over (repent). He sees everything and knows everything and He says that when we ask His forgiveness, it is thrown into the see of forgetfulness and that is as far as the East is from the West. “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:11-12)

The best and most direct way to hear God’s voice is through His Word-which is the Bible. Every topic can be found in there-anywhere and everywhere beginning with Genesis and ending with Revelation. “For from days of old they have not heard or perceived by ear, Nor has the eye seen a God besides You, Who acts in behalf of the one who waits for Him.” (Isaiah 64:4) Reading the Scriptures reveals the character of who God really is. It is how He directly communicates with those who are His and for those who are looking for Him. By reading God’s Word, it helps us make the correct choices for our lives. You need to realize that God is so infinite to our way of understanding. It’s like taking the ocean and pouring it in to a glass. His direction can sometimes be the exact opposite of how we “feel” we should go. That is where our faith comes into play also. God knows us better than we know ourselves; and like any good parent He may say no in one area so that we may grow or move in another. “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.  Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:19-20)

As you walk Every Day With Grace, I invite you to listen and hear God’s voice when He reaches out to you. Don’t harden your hearts and turn away from Him-rather open yourself up to Him and be willing to hear what He has to say to you personally. He love us enough to Bless us as well as chastise us. Please do not miss any opportunity or direction God may have for you. You may be pleasantly surprised at the depth of His love for you. “Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us? Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)

“Lord, make me to know my end and (to appreciate) the measure of my days-what it is; let me know and realize how frail I am (how transient my stay here). “ (Psalm 39:4)

UnknownHello! How are you? How was your week? Right now I find life a bit hectic-which is why I chose the above scripture. This scripture caught my attention because it blatantly states how we should measure (appreciate) our time here on earth. I don’t know about you, but, I know I have taken many things for granted –consciously or unconsciously I have taken life and my time here for granted. We always think we have more time than we do. The fact is God has given each of us a certain number of days and we are not promised tomorrow. “Behold, You have made my days as (short as) handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing in Your sight. Truly every man at his best is merely a breath! Selah (pause and think calmly of that)! (Psalm 39:5)

I think it could be frightening for ourselves to know this truth when we haven’t confessed our sins to God; and frustrating to try to share it with those who don’t want to know about it. There are many people who do not believe in an after-life and think when you die-you die and go into a void of some sort. I guess that is comforting to those who do not want to face God Almighty and find out if there is a heaven or a hell. But, I assure you, they will find this our first hand at that point. (It is appointed for a man to die and then the judgment) People do not realize how short time really is because they think they are truly in charge of their lives.Surely every man walks to and fro –like a shadow in a pantomime; surely for futility and emptiness he is in turmoil; each one heaps up riches, not knowing who will gather them. And now, Lord, what do I wait for and expect? My hope and expectation are in You.” (Psalm 39:6-7)

We all know we will die one day. But, do we really put our hope and expectation in God all the time? If we don’t, why is that? Sometimes I think it is our own unbelief that stops us. You know what I mean? It’s when we take our eyes off of God that we get in to trouble. What should we say to God during times like this? “Deliver me from all me transgressions; make me not the scorn and reproach of the (self-confident) fool! I ma dumb, I open not my mouth, for it is You Who has done it. Remove your stroke from me; I am consumed by the conflict and the blow of Your hand. When with rebukes You correct and chasten man from sin, You waste his beauty like a moth and what is dear to him consumes away; surely every man is a mere breath.” Selah. (Psalm 39:8-11)

 What can God do? “Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear to my cry; hold not Your peace at my tears! For I am Your passing guest, a temporary resident, as all my fathers were. O look away from me and spare me that I may recover cheerfulness and encouraging strength and know gladness before I go and am no more!” (Psalm 39:12-13)  We get into trouble when we live our lives without God in it. We say He is, but we really like go about our own business and sort of give Him a “heads up” to our plans. “Come now, you who say Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such city and spend a year there and carry on our business and make money. Yet you do not know (the least thing) about what may happen tomorrow. What is the nature of your life? You are (really) but a wisp of vapor (a puff of smoke, a mist) that is visible for a little while and then disappears into thin air). You ought instead to say, If the Lord is willing, we shall live and we shall do this or that (thing). But as it is, you boast (falsely) in your presumption and your self-conceit. All such boasting is wrong. So any person who knows what is right to do but does not do it, to him it is sin.” (James 4:13-17)

As you walk Every Day with Grace, Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),  Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15-16) Know that each day is a gift and that life should be lived to the fullest with Jesus. Seek His will for your life and let Him show you all that He has for you because we do not know what tomorrow may bring. Let your life shine with God’s will for you.

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)

Hello! How are you? How are things?  I, myself have gone through a recent trial these last two weeks and I am so grateful that I had and felt  the grace of God.  Frankly, I do not know how people go through the tough times without having the assurance of their relationship in Jesus. I would assume by now everyone has heard of the news of the death of Robin Williams.  He was a comedic genius with improv and timing. The news of his death was sad. If he didn’t know Jesus when he died, then his death is even more tragic because now he will be eternally separated from God.

This may be a morbid topic, but we will all die eventually. A family member  of mine almost died last week, but it was not his time and God spared him. The Bible says “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27) When one knows Jesus, they will die a physical death (absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”) but, they will have eternal life because the spirit will live 0n-which means the person does not truly die. You see, we are made up of spirit, soul and body. The body is our “physical shell”; our mind, will and emotions are our soul; and then our spirit. In the beginning God breathed His Spirit into His creation-which was Adam; thus giving him life. We all come from Adam and Eve. They are our “original parents” who are brought sin into the world-which is why there is a physical death.  (In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19)  People walk around thinking that they should just take care of their bodies only and that will prolong their life. Obviously, we should do everything we can to maintain our health and live a healthy lifestyle; and I have heard so many people say “my body is a temple like the Bible says it is”. But, they are mis-quoting the scripture and say that as a way to idolize their body.  The Bible says that our body is the temple of the HOLY SPIRIT. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

The real issue about life/death (or, eternal life/eternal death) is whether one believes in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and will therefore never die.  Do you believe this to be true? Can you accept that there is eternal life, but only through Jesus “Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) Many people think their philosophy will save them Or, their religion will save them; or, their morality will save them-you know the “golden rule”…”do unto others as you would want done to you…” But, the fact is this…none of this will save you and guarantee you a spot in heaven. One’s morality will not get you salvation. However, morality is a by-product of  one’s salvation.  You may not accept this information, but, do you believe it is true? Understand that God see everything and “we have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) God is a Holy God and He will not have anything sinful in His presence. That is why only Jesus offers us forgiveness of our sins and makes us “white as snow” as He mediates on our behalf. The only way to achieve this is to believe this. I’m not talking about visualization, or perception or anything that is self-serving. Belief is an act of faith because there really is nothing for us to do except believe what God says is true.

This trials I went through made me think (again) that time is short and life as we know it is precious. My concern with my family member is that they refuse to submit themselves to Jesus.  Salvation is a gift; so therefore, it is something we cannot bargain with or obtain on our own. Jesus said “I am the Way, the truth and light. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Do you believe this? The decision is an easy one and yours to make. We are not promised tomorrow which is why “Today is the day of salvation.”  For he says, In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you. I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2) Salvations starts with a choice to believe and then the action to accept-which awakes your spiritual nature (remember we are spirit, soul and body).

As you walk Every Day With Grace,  I ask that you choose life-eternal life and believe. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever would believe on Him would not perish, but have ever-lasting life.” (John 3:16)

I Surrender All | Judson W. Van DeVenter

 All to Jesus I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

Refrain:
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power;
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred flame.
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His Name!

“As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying,“Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many. You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.” (Matthew 24

IMG_0867 Hello!  How have you been? It is almost August! Where is the time going? It seemed like yesterday when I was complaining about the snow and now summer is half over! The hours may seem to drag; but, the days are flying for sure! Does it seem like the world is going crazy or what? The turmoil in the world is just getting out of hand! If one is a believer in God, how can they not think about the end times; and if one is NOT a believer, what could they possibly be thinking about the world that we live in? “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

I notice there seems to be more and more commercials for apocalyptic movies. Some of them are really frightening. I don’t want to name them because I don’t want to promote them.  Are people thinking about the inevitable? Or, is it just all about fear and money?  That’s why one needs to know where they stand with God-not in 1, 5, 10, 50 years from now, but right now. We are not guaranteed tomorrow. When we wake in the morning, I assure you, that is God’s gift to you because His mercies are new every morning. I understand what it’s like to wake  up and think “I just cannot take another day like this!”  But, I also understand what the alternative is also…death. “As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”  (2 Corinthians 6:1-2) God is very gracious to His own children and creation-and He doesn’t have to be because He is God, Almighty and He does not OWE us anything.  The attitude of entitlement is nothing more than laziness and ungratefulness and is completely against the Word of God. Actually we, humans truly deserve hell and death-and that is because of our sinful, un-repented nature because sin separates us from God. And since God dwells in heaven I know He doesn’t need to visit Hell.  Hell was not meant for mankind. Hell was created for the devil and His fallen angels. However, since so much of the human race has renounced God and Jesus, that is where they will spend all eternity.  We do not know what tomorrow may bring, but, eventually we will all meet our Maker. “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. (Hebrews 9:27-28)  “Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness. In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use.  Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.  And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.” (2 Timothy 19-26)

You  need to understand that God is a Holy God and sin cannot be in His presence. That’s why Jesus died for all of mankind-so that He could bridge the gap between God and man. When we become Born Again, the spirit of God enters our body, soul and spirit. Prior to that ,we are just body and soul. Flesh and emotions without a built in moral compass. I am not saying there are not “good” people out there. As a matter of fact many are good or appear “good” in a human point of view. However, that does make them godly because they do good things.  (sheep and goats/ rich young ruler) As my very good friend Amy always says, ” There are goods things we  ca do and there are godly things we can do.” At one in society, I can understand why this would be similar.  However the “good” standard has changed in today’s world, but the godly standard has not, “For I am the Lord, I do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, [l]are not consumed. (Malachi 3:6)

The moral compass has changed greatly in the United States; and it is a reflection of the sign of the times. (Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who [a]substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who [b]substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!)  (Isaiah 5:20) (2 Timothy  This could be the reason why people are concerned listening to the news and thinking about where they might be in eternity.  “The truth is this: hey replied, Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved–you and your household.” (Acts 16;310)

As you Walk Every Day with Grace, I want you to know that God’s promises are waiting for you to embrace and it will not cost you one cent. Salvation is a free gift Why worry about tomorrow and all of it’s turmoil when you can have the peace and assurance of eternity through Jesus Christ today? God loves you and is waiting for you to become a member of His family. The end of the age is coming.  Why wait for the closing act  to arrive when you already know how it will end? Mankind cannot change the mind of God. He has written it down for us as a stern warning for those who will not believe and as a loving exhortation to those who do. ”

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.” (Revelation 22:17)
