“The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm—He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (Psalm 121:5-8)

Psalm 121  Hello! How is everyone? I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It is already December! How crazy is that? It feels as if someone is ripping pages off the calendar and I can’t keep up with it.  It definitely feels like it’s speeding up the aging process too.  (Oh no!! 🙂 )

I like this picture that I found online because we have a full moon tonight as well and it always makes me think about how God looks down and watches over His creation.  “The earth is the LORD’s and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.” (Psalm 24:1) I always wonder what He’s thinking…alas, He doesn’t tell me. I know for myself I will go about my business and make plans about various things and I do not always take into account that I am not alone and that in fact, God is watching over me.  I can’t even imagine what circumstances I have avoided because of His protection.

Do you ever stop and realize that God is watching over you? He sees all and there is nothing hidden from His sight.  For instance, I just saw on the news a crime that involved an innocent pedestrian. It was very cold and rainy this week and this young woman was just walking quickly with her cell phone in hand and her head down (probably because of the rain) when this young, urban kid ran after her-jumped and kicked her in the back making her fall face down as he stole her cell phone.  You’re probably thinking “why is she telling this story?” I’m telling you this because I want to illustrate how God watches over His creation.  What the robber did not know was that this woman had an infant (3 or 4) month old baby strapped to the front of her like a papoose. So when she fell-she fell directly (and hard) right on top of her baby!.  The miracle is that the baby was completely unharmed from the fall and his mother falling on top of him. That, my friend, is the loving mercy and protection that only God could bring. Could God have had this situation avoided? Absolutely! Sadly, there is much evil in this world and God allows things for reasons we may never know and/or understand. Truthfully, He is God-He doesn’t have to share anything with us.  Do you tell your children everything? My guess is you probably don’t.  Yet, I know when people heard this story, the first thing out of there mouths were “Thank God the baby was unharmed and Okay as well as the mother. You see, God does not just get the acknowledgment, He gets the glory of who He is and His loving care even in a situation like this. “The LORD is my light and salvation; whom shall I fear?”  (Psalm 27:1) “God is our refuge and strength ; a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)

Even when I travel, I know my life is in God’s hand. I will for traveling mercies and a hedge of protection around me as I go to and from places in my every day life.  Even if I am not traveling and I am home alone-God still is watching over me and protecting me as a loving Father. I didn’t ask for it. I can’t buy it; and I certainly didn’t earn His love. It is His free gift to all who will partake of it.  “I sought the LORD and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. ”  (Psalm 34: 4-6)

As you walk Every Day With Grace, take heart and have peace knowing that you are never alone and God is always watching out for you. The second you cry out to Him and for Him-He is right there to stand by you and to guide you; and to love you.

In His Love,

Melody

“O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!” (Psalm 107:1)

imagesHello! How are you? Can you believe that Thanksgiving  is (2) weeks away? I say it all the time-where does the time go? I think this holiday gets passed 0ver way too easily. For many people it’s about family, football, parades and lots of food. Oh, and Black Friday and the beginning of the mad rush to shop for Christmas.

Do you think people actually stop and evaluate their lives and give thanks for their lives; or, one another and more importantly…to God? Think about it. You woke up this morning-because God allowed it. Aren’t you thankful for that? “A person’s days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed.” (Job 14:5)  When the holidays come upon us, we get caught up in the hustle and the bustle and the drama of everything and when that happens…we lose our peace. We lose our peace with God and we lose our peace within ourselves and each other. We forget our gratitude towards God; for everything He has done for us and for everything He has provided to us. He has given us our abilities, our strength, our vision and purpose; and because of that we MUST give Him thanks. For no other reason than He deserves at least that from His creation. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. “(James 1:17 )

One of the reasons I like Thanksgiving is because it really does make one take a look at their lives. Unfortunately, it is easier to see the negative things in life, so it may take a little more effort to really examine the blessings one may actually have in one’s life.  But, when you do take that look, you can honestly say that life is not that bad. I remember hearing someone who was a Holocaust surviver say “every day above ground is a good day!” It puts things in perspective, doesn’t it?  Many people think they don’t have much to be thankful because we sometimes compare it to those who have more and have what we want.  We rarely compare it to those who are less fortunate and say “Thank you, God!” Some of us have been less fortunate and can appreciate an increase of God’s bounty of goodness; still, there others who cannot appreciate or, handle their blessings of increase because the focus is on self. One may think like King Nebachanezar and think “look what MY hands have built. (or increased). There’s no humility with that type of thinking.  There is no gratitude towards God.   Yet, in spite of all of that, God is still good and still  loves us and patiently waits for us to say “Thank You, Lord for loving me and providing what l need. You may not have given me everything I may want, but you are always faithful to provide for my needs!”  “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”                (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

As we enter into our Thanksgiving season, it is my prayer that you take a look at your life and start thanking God for your life and everything He has done for you. I know some things are not easy. But I do know that God has a purpose and a plan for your life and the circumstances  that surround your life. “I will praise you, Lord, Although you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you have comforted me. Surely God is my salvation;I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.” (Isaiah 12:1-2)

As you walk Every Day with Grace, start with just one thing to be thankful for and see how your thankfulness will become a way of life for you.

In His Love,

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)

“Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 4:7)

Hello. How are you? How are you doing? I hope all is well as you are taking care of all things in your lives. It is (7) weeks to Christmas and (3) weeks or so to Thanksgiving. Time seems to be moving more quickly since we are approaching the end of the year. It seems like the hustling and bustling of everything starts getting louder and louder and so distracting that one cannot listen to their own thoughts-let alone the voice of God when He is speaking to you.

Why is it is that we say we want to hear from God, but we don’t listen? Why do we make it so complicated to listen to God when He calls out to us? We really don’t have to go far. It’s not like we have to climb a mountain, sit in cloth and enter into a deep meditation in order to get close to God. God is all around us and makes Himself very attainable for us for us to communicate with Him if we choose. Truly, the problem is that we do not make time to listen to Him. Why? Because we are mostly busy about doing things for self-some good, some bad at times (none of us are perfect). We become more self-centered than God centered. We get caught up in our family, friends, jobs, school, grocery shopping, doctor appointments, TV, etc… We try to be everything to everyone and it just creates more clamor inside our head! That’s why we don’t hear God when He call us by our name .(He obviously knows our name). We are too busy doing “stuff” and any form of interruption of our plans makes us angry. So, what do we do? We tune Him out like any other distraction-sometimes completely.

Whether we can admit this or not, we want God on our terms because that’s how we live our lives-everything is on our terms not somebody else’s. Believe it or not, God is a gentleman. He does not force Himself or His will into our lives. We have free will and we will live with the rewards…and the consequences because WE make the decisions and; therefore, cannot blame anyone else for our choices. God is a God a love. But, He is also Just rather than fair. When He sees how crazy and stressed out we can be He may call out to us. Sometimes, He may call us Friend, Lovely, or, His Bride. Unfortunately, as in any relationship, we have the choice to accept or reject love-even God’s love. That’s we He says “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart.” God’s mercies are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:23) Every new day can bring change and possibilities-if we do not harden our hearts and keep God out of it.

God is a Holy God and He is our Creator (Elohim). We were made in His image-not the other way around. Can you imagine how it must heart the heart of God when we choose not to have any communication with Him? Can you imagine children (who are the image of their parents) refuse to have any form of fellowship or relationship with them? I can’t imagine the pain or the heart break! Sadly, I am also guilty of behaving like this with God. There’s been many a day (to my shame) when I have chosen not to listen to God because of my mood or my bad choices. The sad part is there were times I chose to live with the guilt of my behavior until I go to God and ask for forgiveness and to start over (repent). He sees everything and knows everything and He says that when we ask His forgiveness, it is thrown into the see of forgetfulness and that is as far as the East is from the West. “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:11-12)

The best and most direct way to hear God’s voice is through His Word-which is the Bible. Every topic can be found in there-anywhere and everywhere beginning with Genesis and ending with Revelation. “For from days of old they have not heard or perceived by ear, Nor has the eye seen a God besides You, Who acts in behalf of the one who waits for Him.” (Isaiah 64:4) Reading the Scriptures reveals the character of who God really is. It is how He directly communicates with those who are His and for those who are looking for Him. By reading God’s Word, it helps us make the correct choices for our lives. You need to realize that God is so infinite to our way of understanding. It’s like taking the ocean and pouring it in to a glass. His direction can sometimes be the exact opposite of how we “feel” we should go. That is where our faith comes into play also. God knows us better than we know ourselves; and like any good parent He may say no in one area so that we may grow or move in another. “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.  Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:19-20)

As you walk Every Day With Grace, I invite you to listen and hear God’s voice when He reaches out to you. Don’t harden your hearts and turn away from Him-rather open yourself up to Him and be willing to hear what He has to say to you personally. He love us enough to Bless us as well as chastise us. Please do not miss any opportunity or direction God may have for you. You may be pleasantly surprised at the depth of His love for you. “Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us? Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)

“Then Samuel said, Does the LORD take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as He does in obedience? Certainly, obedience is better than sacrifice, paying attention is better than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22)

Hello! How are you? I know my life is crazy busy…would you agree that yours is as well? It’s almost the end of October….time is marching on and life has a way of happening when you are in the middle of making other plans. The key is how one responds to life’s changes-especially since God is the one who is either making the changes; or allowing them to occur. “and do not turn aside from any of the words which I command you today, to the right or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them. “ (Deuteronomy 28:14)

You may ask, what does she mean about that? I will tell you. First, I want you to know that God is a Sovereign Ruler. In layman’s terms, that means He is in charge and nothing sneaks passed Him without Him knowing or His say so. But, we think He has no idea about what is happening to us, or, how circumstances affect us. We get so caught up in the drama that we lose sight of WHO our God is and WHAT He can do when we are in crisis-and even when we are not in crisis. The issue is what happens next. We take our eyes off Jesus and put the focus on our own self and our situations and we “go through the motions” of our alleged faith. I say “alleged” because we are not always living true faith that can be seen by others. Oh, we may act pious or religious, but, that’s what I mean by going “through the motions”. We can react mechanically because of the knowledge we possess, but the heart may have grown cold and turned from God during this time. “Now therefore amend your ways and your deeds and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will change His mind about the misfortune which He has pronounced against you,“ (Jeremiah 26:13)

Make no mistake…God sees and hears everything; and He sees what is actually within our own heart (disbelief, selfishness, religion, etc…) He will reveal to us what is in our heart because He is merciful and loves us and He will give us the opportunity to confess our sins to Him and repent (turn from) them so as to restore our relationship with Him. “However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says “LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:16-17)

God does not want our sacrifice of our time and money to “a cause” or, a church;, or a charity just because it seems like the right or good thing to do. It’s easy to write a check or to participate in something once, twice, or even monthly. But who are you doing it for? God? Or, self? God wants our heart attitude to be submissive to Him and His Word. He wants us to obey His will and applyit  to our own lives what the Bible says. He does’nt want us to be mindless robots without a soul or a brain, He just wants what is best for us as any loving Father (or mother) would want for their children.  We need to change our minds and focus on Him completely. We need to get our mind soley off of ourselves when all we have to offer this world is nothing but selfish ambition.  “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.“ (2 Corinthians 10:15).

God, through His Son, Jesus, understands the struggle we endure because He endured every form of struggle and temptation straight to the Cross at Calvery.  To paraphrase one of Michael Card’s verses “it was His love that kept Him hanging on the cross.”  God gave us a way to live and those that are His to behave like Him.  What I mean by “His” are those Born Again Believers that received Jesus Christ, the Messiah into their hearts and follow after Him. These are ones He calls His children. [Live] as children of obedience [to God]; do not conform yourselves to the evil desires [that governed you] in your former ignorance [when you did not know the requirements of the Gospel] But as the One Who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct and manner of living. For it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy. “ (1 Peter 1:14-16)

Our lives should emulate God’s Holiness. We will struggle. We will fall down on our face (sometimes in shame or fear) and the enemy of our souls will continually whisper discouragement in your ears, but, we can continue on because the Spirit of Jesus lives inside of us and His mercies are new every day!. Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my presence but much more because I am absent, work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete) your own salvation with reverence and awe and trembling (self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ).” (Phillippians 2:12-Amplified)

As you walk Every Day With Grace, know that struggles are guarenteed in this life, but indiffernce and religion are spiritual killers because we lose focus of God.  A small cost of obedience to God is worth so much more than all the wealth in this world. He owns everything and everything is His-so what does He really need? I think this song by Keith Green sums it up perfectly.  The song is convicting and liberating.  I hope you really think about the words and then take a good look at your life and the commitment you say have with God.

In His Love,

Melody

TO OBEY IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE-by Keith Green

To obey is better than sacrifice

I don’t need your money, I want your life
And I hear you say that I’m coming back soon
But you act like I’ll never return

Well you speak of grace and my love so sweet
How you thrive on milk but reject my meat
And I can’t help weeping at how it will be
If you keep on ignoring my words
Well you pray to prosper and succeed
But your flesh is something I just can’t feed

To obey is better than sacrifice
I want more than Sundays and Wednesday nights
‘Cause if you can’t come to me everyday
Then don’t bother coming at all

To obey is better than sacrifice
I want hearts of fire, not your prayers of ice
And I’m coming quickly to give back to you
According to what you have done
According to what you have done
According to what you have done

‘Now see that I, even I, am He, And there is no God besides Me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; Nor is there any who can deliver from My hand.” (Deuteronomy 32:39)

thHello. How are you? Are you enjoying the changing of the seasons. Are you getting ready for time change at the end of the month?  That’s when we lose one hour and “fall back” an hour. Anyway, I love the autumn and the change of seasons. I think it gives one an opportunity to slow down and reflect what is going on in one’s life and to see what changes occurred and what changes are needed to be implemented (if possible).

One  of the things I ponder is: why are we so resistant to heed warnings from God (and man)?  Why do we resist change? Why do we think we know better? Why must we struggle within ourselves so unnecessarily? Why are we unable to let go of our own control and trust God-even though a change could only benefit us?  Am I the only one who struggles with these questions? I don’t think so. Whether we like it or not, God is in control of our lives-as it states in the above scripture. There is only one God and other. (Right there should settle every question when people ask if God is real and if there are any other gods.) It clearly states that God is the One that kills and makes alive. He is the One who allows our wounds (physical and emotional); and He is the One who makes alive and no one can take His own from His hand. That, my friend is the Sovereignty of God. All things are ordained by Him and are through Him because He is God. Even the Eboli virus that entered the United States. He allowed that to happen. So what do we do? How do we respond when we are weak and/or scared? Do you think God even hears us?

How we should respond to God during these times?  We need to cry out to God…”O LORD my God, I cried out to You, And You healed me.” (Psalm 30:2) “Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.”  (Proverbs 3:7-8) “Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.” (Psalms 6:2) “My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. (Proverbs 4:20-22)  “Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; Save me, and I shall be saved, For You are my praise.”(Jeremiah 17:14 NKJV) (Jeremiah 30:17 NKJV) “For I will restore health to you And heal you of your wounds,’ says the LORD, ‘Because they called you an outcast saying: “This is Zion; No one seeks her.”‘ (Jeremiah 30:17)

We need to listen to God: “He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.  (Psalms 107:20)  “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14) “And he said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.” (Exodus 15:26) “He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

We need obey God and take responsibility for our actions“Come, and let us return to the LORD; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up.” (Hosea 6:1) “Return, you backsliding children, And I will heal your backslidings.” “Indeed we do come to You, For You are the LORD our God” (Jeremiah 3:22) Who else can we turn to?  “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:14-16) We need to understand that we need to faith in God in our relationship with God. The strength of our faith is our profession of who we are to God and who He is to us. “Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately. And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” (Luke 8: 47-48) “Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.” (Matthew 8:13)

How do we know what God says is true?  How does He respond to us? “And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.” (Matthew 14:14) “I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely, For My anger has turned away from him.” (Hosea 14:4) ‘Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.” (Jeremiah 33:6) “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.” (Matthew 9:35)

How do we know Jesus understands what we go through? “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)  “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.”  “(Healing of the lame man at the Gate Beautiful)  “Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, “by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.” (Act 4:29-31)

There is so much more I can add to this, but, I think you get the picture. We have a Sovereign God who loves us and is in control of all things?  So why should we fret so much? As you walk Every Day With Grace, take comfort in knowing that God through Jesus has us in the palm of His hand and there is nothing that can take us from it. Know you are loved and can always have peace in Jesus whatever circumstance you come across. He is our peace. He is our Healer. He is our God and He is the Lover of our souls.

In His Love,

“Lord, make me to know my end and (to appreciate) the measure of my days-what it is; let me know and realize how frail I am (how transient my stay here). “ (Psalm 39:4)

UnknownHello! How are you? How was your week? Right now I find life a bit hectic-which is why I chose the above scripture. This scripture caught my attention because it blatantly states how we should measure (appreciate) our time here on earth. I don’t know about you, but, I know I have taken many things for granted –consciously or unconsciously I have taken life and my time here for granted. We always think we have more time than we do. The fact is God has given each of us a certain number of days and we are not promised tomorrow. “Behold, You have made my days as (short as) handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing in Your sight. Truly every man at his best is merely a breath! Selah (pause and think calmly of that)! (Psalm 39:5)

I think it could be frightening for ourselves to know this truth when we haven’t confessed our sins to God; and frustrating to try to share it with those who don’t want to know about it. There are many people who do not believe in an after-life and think when you die-you die and go into a void of some sort. I guess that is comforting to those who do not want to face God Almighty and find out if there is a heaven or a hell. But, I assure you, they will find this our first hand at that point. (It is appointed for a man to die and then the judgment) People do not realize how short time really is because they think they are truly in charge of their lives.Surely every man walks to and fro –like a shadow in a pantomime; surely for futility and emptiness he is in turmoil; each one heaps up riches, not knowing who will gather them. And now, Lord, what do I wait for and expect? My hope and expectation are in You.” (Psalm 39:6-7)

We all know we will die one day. But, do we really put our hope and expectation in God all the time? If we don’t, why is that? Sometimes I think it is our own unbelief that stops us. You know what I mean? It’s when we take our eyes off of God that we get in to trouble. What should we say to God during times like this? “Deliver me from all me transgressions; make me not the scorn and reproach of the (self-confident) fool! I ma dumb, I open not my mouth, for it is You Who has done it. Remove your stroke from me; I am consumed by the conflict and the blow of Your hand. When with rebukes You correct and chasten man from sin, You waste his beauty like a moth and what is dear to him consumes away; surely every man is a mere breath.” Selah. (Psalm 39:8-11)

What can God do? “Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear to my cry; hold not Your peace at my tears! For I am Your passing guest, a temporary resident, as all my fathers were. O look away from me and spare me that I may recover cheerfulness and encouraging strength and know gladness before I go and am no more!” (Psalm 39:12-13)  We get into trouble when we live our lives without God in it. We say He is, but we really like go about our own business and sort of give Him a “heads up” to our plans. “Come now, you who say Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such city and spend a year there and carry on our business and make money. Yet you do not know (the least thing) about what may happen tomorrow. What is the nature of your life? You are (really) but a wisp of vapor (a puff of smoke, a mist) that is visible for a little while and then disappears into thin air). You ought instead to say, If the Lord is willing, we shall live and we shall do this or that (thing). But as it is, you boast (falsely) in your presumption and your self-conceit. All such boasting is wrong. So any person who knows what is right to do but does not do it, to him it is sin.” (James 4:13-17)

As you walk Every Day with Grace, Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),  Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15-16) Know that each day is a gift and that life should be lived to the fullest with Jesus. Seek His will for your life and let Him show you all that He has for you because we do not know what tomorrow may bring. Let your life shine with God’s will for you.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12)

image005Hello! How are you? I hope all is going well. Today is September 11, 2014. It has been 13 years since the horrific attack on the United States. I’m sure no American anywhere expected this to happen on our soil. Mostly because we are supposed to be the most powerful nation in the world and had “security” in being an American. Sadly, I also believe that as Americans we can be very arrogant in our citizenship which is why we were so taken aback (to say the least) at what happened. Now there had been smaller attempts against us in the (recent) past, but nothing in comparison to that day. Think about that…people immigrate from all over the world to still come here. We have so much alleged freedom and opportunity that people are constantly coming in illegally to get what our country has to offer. We are experiencing legal issues regarding this area of immigration right now. That could be another topic for another day.

I do believe that God has shown the United States much mercy before, during and after 09/11. People actually started going back into the churches and temples looking for God in all of this tragedy. People may have thought this was the beginning of an apocalypse. Who knows? Most likely everyone undoubtedly thought it was just going to be another average, ordinary day- just going to their jobs. Who would have thought the unimaginable? Who knew that was the last day many families would never see their loved ones? Who knew that was the day they were going to literally meet their maker? Who would have thought? Why would they? America did not have any cause for this type of attack. For many on that day, that was the Day of the Lord for them.

image001 2 The great day of the Lord is near—near and coming quickly. The cry on the day of the Lord is bitter; the Mighty Warrior shouts his battle cry. That day will be a day of wrath—a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, a day of trumpet and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the corner towers. (Zephaniah 1:14-16)

There is a whole generation of children who are being raised without one or both parents from that day. I just want to say to those who will always carry their sorrow, please know that God has promise for you because He is “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” (Psalm 68:5) God does not renege on his promises, or goes back on His word because He is not a liar. “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19) The terrorists thought they brought the Americans to their knees on that day. In a way they did. But, not in the way they thought. Many were brought to their knees and turned to God in prayer. I will say that this tragedy made people do some serious soul-searching; it made take a long, hard look of their lives and lifestyles. Maybe for the first time, people realized that they were not just doing things “their way”, they were actually sinning against God. That’s why there was such an urgency to go back to church. People realized that their lives could end at any given moment and they weren’t sure how where they would they for their afterlife? How can they be guaranteed heaven? Worse yet, what if they wound up in hell? What was their answer? Where do they go? Who has the answer? More importantly, WHO is the Answer? Some people turned back to God, and some found Him for the very first time; and they called Him by name…Jesus. “The name above all names.” “Emmanuel-God with us”.  (Philippians 2:9-11) “For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

For those who have always known Jesus; for those who came to know Him because of this tragedy; and for those who want to know Jesus, need to know that there is an assurance that God will always take care of His own. “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” (Roman 8:image001-131-34) Nothing can take us from His hand and nothing can His love away from us.Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written:“For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:35-39)

As you walk Every Day with Grace, know that God is here for you know now. But you also need to know that as His people, we need to be ready and prepared for when Jesus returns because we do not know when He will return. Many people may perhaps have thought Jesus was returning on 09/11 even though it started out as just a regular day.  We need to keep watch because Jesus will return to this world and His Word is true.  My advice is to continue to live for Him, but keep watch for His return. “For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be.” (Matthew 24:37-39)image003

“Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake. Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning—lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.” (Mark 13:133 ESV)
